What do you do when your child laughs at you when you are attempting to discipline them?

“The solution is not always what you think. I would employ the saturation technique. This means let them laugh and laugh and laugh. I would insist my child laughs for several minutes until it becomes not funny. The problem is you have allowed your child to gain the upper hand in the relationship. The child, for some reason, thinks it is okay to be disrespectful toward the parent. This indicates to me that your parenting style is not consistent. The key to success is being consistent. My son knows what his actions will result in. The punishment is exactly the same every time. Thus the offenses are limited. We very rarely use time out or anything more than the word no with our child since he knows what the limits are. I believe too many parents try to be friends with their children. Your children have friends, they need parents. Bad behavior is anything but funny and the way a parent handles it needs to be consistent and constant if the behavior is to be extinguished.”
