“The shred sled is the hot new item of the season. Based on new technology in caster boards, it is the first of it’s generation to have 4 wheels in-line. The Shred Sled® is the first 4-wheel inline, dual-deck board that makes it smoother and easier for kids and adults to start carving up the streets. Instead of pushing off the board like a regular skateboard, riders use their hips, legs and arms to move the board, similar to movements used to propel surfboards and snowboards. The Shred Sled’s flexible connector allows both decks to rotate around the vertical and horizontal axes so it’s easy to maneuver the board. For better control, each deck has a grip surface to maximize traction and stability while the concave decks make for better foot control.
All I have to say is oh-my-gosh! Well, that’s not all I have to say about the Shred Sled. It is so much more than awesome! Originally, Shred Sled sent us one so that my teenager could try it out and tell about it, but he broke his wrist and he wasn’t able to ride it. So, since he couldn’t ride it and it looked so cool, I couldn’t resist trying to do it. Now, I would like to preface this by saying that I have never snowboarded or skate boarded, however, I do know how to rollar skate on the old fashioned skates. Remember, the ones that were around for years before inline skates came out. Well, yes, that is as close to skating that I had ever done. I must say that in my day, I was pretty good too! Now, inline skates – forget it. My ankles were way too weak.
But, I digress, I took the Shred Sled outside and decided that I would give it a try. So, I got the little people ready and got their scooters out. I figured I could give the Shred Sled a whirl while the little people watched their mother make a fool of herself.
I talked my dear husband in to coming outside as well so he could help me. At first, I just didn’t get how to get on the Shred Sled, and was trying to ride it like it was a regular skateboard. Big mistake! It is nothing like a skateboard. Needless to say, I fell quite a few times and the kids had a few good laughs. But I kept trying and kept trying, and kept trying.
Once I figured out that my feet went sideways and not to push off like a regualar skateboard, I actually got the Shred Sled going. I was so proud of myself! First it was a couple of seconds, then my attempts at riding the Shred Sled became longer and longer. That’s not to say that I didn’t fall down, because I did! The cutest thing was that one time I fell pretty hard and my 7-year-old scootered up to me at lightening speed, asked if I was OK, and told me I almost gave him a heartattack. Too funny!
Well, we were riding around the block and then we ran into a group of kids skateboarding and riding bikes. Every single one of the boys looked at me with awe! I could tell by their looks that they couldn’t believe their eyes – a MOM on an uber cool Shred Sled! (Yes, for a moment I was uber cool!) By that time, I had gotten pretty good at it (meaning I stayed on the Shred Sled for more than a minute at a time).
The kids struck up conversation with me and I asked them if they wanted to give it a try. With eyes wide, it was almost like a chorus of “Yeees!” When the first child hopped on, it was like he had ridden one forever. I have to admit I was jealous! His feet went back and forth and he was riding like a pro. Then as the turns came around, every…single…one…of…them…had the knack to ride it off the bat. When I first got on, I fell off without the Shred Sled even moving. I must have stood there for at least 20 minutes while these children took turns riding it over and over again. They couldn’t get enough of it! One of the children was able to compare it to the older 2-wheel boards and said the Shred Sled was so much more “awesome!”
Now, I’ve warned my teenager that he might not keep the Shred Sled because I had fallen in love. The exercise was fabulous as my legs were a little sore after riding it. The neighborhood kids even admitted to how much the Shred Sled worked out the muscles. By the end of the outing around the block, I had gotten pretty good. The only thing I couldn’t do was ride it up the steep graded hill of a driveway I have, but no worries – I’ll get it!
All of The Shred Sled’s components have been greatly improved from older 2-wheel boards. The Shred Sled’s 4 x 80mm polyurethane wheels and ABEC-5 bearings are smoother and stronger than standard hardware and unlike other boards, rarely need to be replaced. The board’s aluminum casters surpass the quality of older boards’ metal casters which often rust.

Very interesting! I watched the video and my husband saw it over my shoulder and was telling me how neat it was. Seems like a safer and more versatile option from the traditional skateboard. Not sure if my son would get a chance to use it if my husband got ahold of it.
